I’m a Brit based in the Alps of France with my wife and two daughters. I’m an Associate Fellow with the London based thinktank Chatham House (also known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs).
For the past 20 years I have been working in the fields of environment and development programme management, strategic planning, research, training and communication.I’m particularly interested in environmental politics, peacebuilding and conflict mediation, trade policy, extractive sector management and international relations.
I’ve been lucky enough to have worked on these issues across the world: in Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Liberia and Sierra Leone), Asia (Afghanistan, Nepal and Thailand), the Middle East (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Israel) and Latin America (Bolivia).
I have worked for the UN (UN Environment, the Department of Political Affairs, the UN Development Programme) and a couple of think tanks (Chatham House and the International Institute for Sustainable Development), and am the founder of my own environmental consultancy, Alp Analytica.
I have degrees in anthropology and history (University of Glasgow), international studies (University of Otago) and environmental management (University College London).
